Naturally, you’ve already thought the size, the shape, and the design of what you and Buddy will be most comfortable with. But what about all the technicalities?
It’s not easy to find good quality these days, much less so when shopping over the Internet. There are several things though you can do before you click to avoid the hassle of sending stuff back.
Before you order:
- Look carefully at all the pictures of the dog bed you selected. If there are pictures of the same model in different colors, check them out too. This will give you a better idea of what it’s going to look like in reality.
- Check the description for info on where the bed has been made and what materials have been used. Make sure that you know what your dog bed has been filled with.
- Don’t forget to check if the bed is machine-washable. It would be best if it had a removable cover, but if the whole bed can be washed in your washer, that’s not bad either.
When it gets there:
- Open the box with care, and out of Buddy’s sight. Without the over-excited end-user sprawling on it, you will have a better chance to make sure it’s right for him.
- Do a sniff test. A good dog bed should not smell very strong of cleaning products or make you wonder if it sat in a dusty warehouse for many years.
- Unzip all zippers and check what’s inside. Hopefully, it’s exactly what the product description promised when you ordered it.
- Check all the seams to make sure they are even and hold tight. Sometimes even the most durable fabric is not enough to make a bed last if the seams are not done right.
Once you’re done with it, it’s time to see if the bed gets Buddy’s seal of approval. Sometimes it takes a while before dogs take to a new bed, especially if they slept with their hooman before. Having said that, they should feel compelled to at least examine it and give it their very own sniff test.
A good-quality dog bed is a major purchase, and it should last us a couple of years. So, if you have any doubts about the quality, do not take any chances. Any reputable, dog-loving seller will be happy to exchange the bed to make sure that both his smooth-skinned and furry customers are satisfied.
